The other day I was preparing a quick Saturday lunch, something DeAnn and I usually share at McDonald’s. This time I was in a hurry, we had too many leftovers in the fridge. I was leaving town for a few days and didn’t want to waste the food, I am conservative that way. One of the few skills I have is the ability to toss something eatable together from leftovers. This time there were some flour tortillas and a very little bit of meat from the previous day’s tacos. Also in the fridge was left over hotdogs and fixens, grilled onions, raw onions, little chopped tomato, all preserved in one container. Why waste space when they will be used together again right? There was also some grated cheese, all the ingredients needed to make a gourmet quesadilla.
In addition to my impromptu cooking genius, I pride myself on my problem solving skills and my judgement, which are based on my ability to remember facts, past events, conversations, and important details. That doesn’t mean that I remember birthdays, or people’s names. However, when it comes to solving a business puzzle, or making a decision I do pretty good. My pride in these skills has been reinforced over the years by the numbers of times I have been proven right and by how quickly I can make that right choice. Very much like tossing a quick meal together, I see the varied ingredients, quickly assemble them, make some fast choices about seasoning, apply just the right amount of energy and its done almost to perfection, doesn’t matter if its a quesadilla or a business idea. DeAnn will tell you I have not been as right as many times as I remember, but she would also admit that my skills are somewhat above average, and that I have had my moments of genius. Of course that’s my word not hers.
This week DeAnn got a laugh and I relearned an important lesson. When assembling a quesadilla it is very important to know for certain the ingredients you are using. There are some ingredients that while very tasty on a hotdog, may not fit with the seasoning you would normally apply to a Mexican dish. What I would have sworn were left over grilled onions, which I love, and used in excess for my quick lunch, was instead sauerkraut.
My proverb 2
Test your facts, test your ingredients, and test the things you know are certain to, for assumptions based on an error in knowledge will cause others to laugh at you.
My proverb 3
Pray that the chuckler is not a competitor.

And I thought I was goofy the other morning when I tried to season my oatmeal with cummin instead of ground cinnamon.
