Leap Year

Whew! (sound of a heavy sigh) February was a busy month! There was work, a stockholder presentation, and a board planning presentation. Almost daily workouts, a home remodeling project, a weekend trip to Cirque du Solei, and a local 5k run. There was a visit from my two daughters. Baby-sitting for three days, one time it was a grandson and on two Sundays it was for a friend who has three children. Yes, there was the required reading (see previous post), and a couple other resolutions I am working on that I haven’t shared yet. On the couch across the den, laptop computer on her knees and a waterfall of fifth grade papers cascading from her lap, on to the couch, trickling on to the floor forming a pool for the dogs to play in at her feet, set DeAnn. More than once it was into the wee hours of the morning. February was a hard month for both of us. Whew!

Too busy for a short month, that’s what I used as my excuse for not posting for most of February. Maybe it’s that all we wanted to accomplish for the month was just too much. February was just an over booked flight, something needed to get bumped, and we were the frazzled ticket agents. Maybe we neglected a few things the month before, put off too much in January, and entered February behind. Mostly, I think it was the short month that put us behind. Whew!
The scary thing is that when I look at March and April the calendar is full, much a repeat of the everyday stuff, daily workouts, Monday through Friday trips to my second home and second family (work). DeAnn has parent teacher conferences and will also have that never ending supply of papers with which to carpet the floor. To make matters worse we are bringing with us our unfinished February items. Life, work, chores, books to read, and visits to make will fill the minutes, hours, days, and weeks till we reach the end of the month and we will take another deep breath. Whew!
Kinda feel like we are living month to month, take a deep breath on the first, exhale at the end, like the paycheck that just doesn’t quite stretch far enough we come up short, no time and lots to do. One or two days can really make a difference. One more day of rest, one more day on the remodel project, one more day of grading papers and we could have ended last month less tired, less behind, less stressed. What we would have given for one more Saturday! Whew!
I have a request of congress; first don’t tell me how hard you are working until you have mimicked a fifth grade teacher I know and quietly worked till 3:30 in the morning only to get up at 5:30 to do it all again without bragging, campaigning, or complaining about how others are not cooperating, and second if we are going to add a day to the calendar once every 4 years lengthening the month, why don’t you truly help the educational system and make it a Saturday!
