Rich Farmer

Ok I just have to point you to a head line for the Lexington –Herald-Leader.
“No hearing date set in Richie Farmer divorce Case”
Divorce in not funny but this headline is funny to me in so many ways, add to the humor Mr. Rich Farmer is the Agricultural Commissioner for the state of Kentucky. I am sure news and comedy channels have already had their fun with Mr. Rich Farmer’s name and occupation… but it was new to me today.

The democrats and republicans are fighting over a looming budget. It seems to me we tax or cut expenditures to the latest villain.  We have heard the cries in recent months and years. Wealthy Wall Street bankers were ruining our society.  They need to be regulated, taxed, and penalized .Then it was the rich oil companies, who were gouging us with exuberant profits, and polluting our shores. Then there are the vile ethanol producers who are getting rich with government tax incentives while starving the world by taking food and making fuel.

You can bet than on the chopping block will be farm subsidies. Let me make a prediction you are going to hear about other “Rich Farmers” and how much money is spent to subsidize them while commodities are at record levels.  Even us conservatives are guilty; NPR, Planned Parent Hood, EPA, etc . They are all tax benefiting evil empires, right? If not for their ways we would have plenty of money and life would be better without them.
Since when did rich become vile? When did wishing to make your community or environment better become a reason to be thought of as evil? The moment we realized there was a divorce coming, that’s when. “It’s your fault we are in this mess” the couple approaching a divorce cries in unison.
Our society has become entangled with its government, interdependent not independent, entwined much like a marriage, with some good and some bad on both sides. Now society must find away to divorce itself from big government and learn to live on its own again. Its gong to be tough and we both are going to want the fine china. I am afraid both are going to have to change their life style. Government will have to take less and society will have to expect less.
Having just written my check to the IRS I pray they don’t up the alimony. If they do Rich Farmer will have change his name to Broke.
